I’ve had the privilege of photographing proposal locations in Barcelona and Costa Brava for years now, from quiet mornings along coastal cliffs to stunning botanical gardens. Here are my honest picks for the most beautiful (and proposal-friendly) locations in the region, based on real sessions I’ve shot.
1. Marimurtra Botanical Garden, Blanes
If you want your proposal to feel like a scene from a movie, this is it. Marimurtra sits on the cliffs of the Costa Brava, with postcard views of the Mediterranean stretching out below and a luxurious, garden-estate feel all around. It’s calm, it’s elegant and unforgettable – go early morning, and you’ll have the gardens almost to yourself.
A quick heads-up: Marimurtra requires a photography permit to shoot here professionally, which I take care of as part of the planning process. It’s absolutely worth it for the view alone.
Best for: couples who want a “wow” backdrop with a mix of nature and elegance.
2. The Costa Brava Coastline
Beyond Marimurtra, the wider Costa Brava is full of dramatic coves, pine-covered cliffs, and small hidden beaches. I love shooting proposals here at sunrise, when the light turns soft and golden and you’ll likely have the whole coastline to yourselves.
Some of my favorite spots change with the seasons and tides, so this is one I usually help couples choose together based on their vision and the time of year.
Best for: couples who want privacy, dramatic scenery, and that classic Mediterranean cinematic feel.
3. Montserrat
For couples who want something more adventurous, Montserrat is unbeatable. This mountain, about an hour from Barcelona, has unique rock formations and incredible valley views that feel worlds away from the city. I’ve photographed proposals here after a morning hike together, with the whole mountain range as the backdrop.
Unlike the rest of the locations on this list, Montserrat doesn’t call for an early sunrise. The best time is just before sunset, once the tour buses have left for the day and the mountain quiets down.
Best for: couples who love mountains and incredible views more than the sea.
4. Parc de la Ciutadella, Barcelona
Right in the heart of Barcelona, Ciutadella Park is one of the city’s most romantic green spaces. Think tree-lined paths, a beautiful lake, and the grand Cascada fountain as a backdrop. It’s an easy, accessible choice if you want a proposal spot that doesn’t require leaving the city.
Early morning is the sweet spot here, both for the light and for having the park mostly to yourselves before it fills up.
Best for: couples staying in the city who want a classic, elegant park setting.
5. Parc del Laberint d’Horta
Slightly off the typical tourist path, this is Barcelona’s oldest preserved garden, and it’s genuinely magical. There’s a neoclassical hedge maze, romantic stone pavilions, and a quiet, almost secret-garden feel that’s completely different from the busier parks in the city.
Because fewer visitors know about it, it tends to feel more private and intimate, which is exactly what a lot of couples want for this moment.
Best for: couples who want something romantic, unique, and away from the crowds.
6. El Born, Barcelona
El Born’s narrow medieval streets and hidden squares are some of my favorite spots to shoot in the city. There’s a warmth and intimacy here that’s hard to find elsewhere in Barcelona, tucked-away corners and a quiet romance in the early morning before the neighborhood wakes up.
One of my favorite spots is right in front of the Santa Maria del Mar basilica – the stone facade and quiet square in front of it make a beautiful, romantic backdrop for a proposal.
Best for: couples based in the city who want a proposal in the historic center, with old-world charm all around.
7. Sitges
This charming seaside town, about 40 minutes from Barcelona, is full of whitewashed streets, sea views, and a relaxed, romantic energy. It’s a wonderful option if you want a beach town feel, or if you’re planning to turn your proposal into a full day trip.
The old town streets in the early morning light, or the seafront promenade at sunset, both make for beautiful, easy-going proposal settings.
Best for: couples who love a laid-back coastal town vibe.
